When you think of someone taking a home paternity test you most likely think of a woman wanting to be sure who has fathered her child. But it’s not only women who can benefit from a home paternity test. Men often need to find out whether or not they are the biological parent to a child, and a home paternity test is a good way to do that. Perhaps you had a relationship with a woman, and she had a child. You did the math in your head and you realize that it’s quite possible that you are the father but you are not certain. Maybe you’ve been paying child support to a woman and you doubt whether or not you are the father. Maybe you have a reasonable belief that you are the father of a child but the mother to the child has refused you visitation rights. A home paternity test can help to straighten out the situation. A father’s name on a birth certificate does not automatically establish legal paternity. Just because someone claims you are the parent of a child doesn’t make it true. Paternity fraud (when a woman falsely claims a man is the parent to her child) could be the case. Can you really trust that the woman would tell you the truth? Has she always been faithful to you or did you ever doubt her fidelity? Paternity tests are not only a way to stop paying child support for a child you did not father, they are also a way for you to get your legal rights to visit a child that is your child.
